Here are my answers to the questions posed above:
What's the best thing about being a demonstrator:
This is actually a very hard question because there are several "best things".
Here are my top 5:
- When I joined 19 years ago, it gave me the opportunity to meet
new people (my kids were young) and gave me reason to purposely create. I made sure I made the time to create/design because I wanted (& made the comittment) to share/teach with others. It definitely got me out of my comfort zone and gave me reason to speak with new people.
- Piggy backing off the first answer, I've met so many great people over the years and still create with several of them! Just yesterday, one of my club members came over for a visit to introduce
me to her friend of a gazillion years (& lives far away). They began stamping together many years ago when they lived near each other and now create together through zoom. And a lot of you have seen/read about my great friendship with Ann who is a demonstrator in Australia. Without joining, neither of us would have met each other!
- I'm one of the rare people who did not join for the discount but joined for the supplemental income. My husband worked odd hours so
a regular job was not in the cards (see the pun) for me and the kids. Stampin' Up! provided me with the flexibility to "work" when and how much I wanted. I called the money I made from people ordering through me "stamping money" and loved using it for fun/extra (and sometimes needed) things. As the kids got older (and then graduated college), I devoted more time to my stamping business which is what you see now.
- I love creating things with my
hands!
- It truly makes me happy - I've been a demonstrator for 19 years and making (& teaching) a card still brings me joy.
What exactly does a demonstrator do?
Again, there is no one answer and the answers vary depending on who you ask because there are many different types of demonstrators.
- By definition, a demonstrator is someone who joined Stampin' Up! by
purchasing a Starter Kit.
- Most people who join stamp for themselves as a hobby and enjoy the initial 20% discount. Some stamp alone, some stamp with a few friends or family members, some teach classes at a local senior center, church, after school program or community center.
- As I mentioned above, I have increased my time and comittment as a demonstrator as my kids grew. I now consider myself as having a stamping business or a professional stamper. I
teach card making (paper crafting) through my in-person Club and online through my weekly lives and recorded videos. I send out weekly emails (such as this one) to a list of people who have subscribed to my mailing list as well as maintain a blog and business facebook page and Youtube channel. MOST DEMONSTRATORS DO NOT DO THIS - do not be intimidated. This evolution was by choice and took 19 years of work and dedication.
What makes
shopping with you different?
I hope and intention is to give you exemplary customer service. I hope that I make myself available for asking any kind of paper crafting question and get back to you with an honest answer. I send out thank you cards for each order and they may even include a coupon for a future order.
Do you need experience to start?
Absolutely not! Remember, a demonstrator is just someone who loves Stampin' Up! products and is going to use them. You can join with zero paper crafting experience (my friend Ann did that) and learn through videos, online searches, getting together with other stampers, playing with the products, etc.
As a demonstrator, you do not have to sell products. That is an option of course. You earn 20-25% of the orders
placed through you. We certainly encourage sharing the catalogs with friends/family members because the products are awesome and someone may want to create with them. Wouldn't you be sad if you were never introduced to Stampin' Up! products?!?!?
There is a $300 quarterly sales minimum to remain an active demonstrator. If you joined this month, your first quarter would not even begin until July 1.
This gives you plenty of time to see if it's a right fit for you. I am happy to help you through this and give you ideas on how to meet this minimum (many meet it themselves with their own crafting).
If you have any questions about joining, please ask me. You can send your questions through email or we can schedule a phone or zoom call.
Thanks!
Christine
