Today's project involves a little traveling. Over the weekend, I visited two Newport Mansions: Marble House & The Breakers. Both are spectacular and unbelievable. I'll post a few photos at the end of this email. At the end of each mansion tour is a gift shop and one item caught my eye because it reminded me of the line of birds in the Free as a Bird stamp
set.
Here is the description of the Newport Budgies: A Newport Mansions exclusive reproduction. This lamp features five glazed white canaries seated on a perch, a reproduction of an English porcelain original from the collections of the Newport Mansion
Kingscote; finished in glazed snow white, inspired by the pure white marble of Marble House. This unique piece is also reminiscent of the mid-19th century aviary which formerly filled the 1837 Gothic Revival summer cottage with the chirping of tropical birds.
I love to be inspired to create cards from non-card ideas. I am always taking photographs of things I see. I also think the challenge of coming up with a design is fun. Here is my interpretation of the reproduction of canaries in card form:
I embossed the birds with black embossing powder and colored them in with the Blends Markers (lights & darks of Granny Apple Green, Daffodil Delight and Calypso Coral, leaves
in Mossy Meadow). The background leaves are stamped tone on tone with Granny Apple Green.
In this card, I embossed the birds in white on a Smoky Slate background. To create a marble look, I used a Very Vanilla layer between the Smoky and Whisper White layers. Both cards used the Whisper White Flax Ribbon to break up the stamped leaves background from the plain top.
This is the card I copied the layout from. This is one of the three designs we will be making in the September card class (the one postponed from August 15). The versatility is great with this set because you can do the same layout with different colors
and you have all new cards.
The Free as a Bird set is sold individually as well as bundled with the Stitched Nested Labels dies (saves 10% as a bundle). I have been using this set and dies a lot lately and will share more samples with you through emails as well as on my website and
Pinterest page. See the Free as a Bird products here.
I hope that you see things differently and try to translate what you see into cards. Be sure to share them with me!
Just Announced - Paper Blades & New Trimmer
I wanted to give you an update on the Trimmer Blades for the retired Stampin' Trimmer. The last shipment of blades has come in and will be available on Tuesday, August 27 beginning at noon, eastern time. Maximum of three packages can be
purchased per order. Item# 126995. Once these sell out (history shows they will sell out before the hour is out), they are gone and no longer available through Stampin' Up!.
The good news is the new Paper Trimmer is expected to be available for purchase before the end of 2019 and will sell for $25. I believe it will be a similar type of trimmer as the one that just retired, but with different and no longer hard to get blades. Once I have more information about the trimmer, I will share them with you.
