October Newsletter

It's October!
October brings so much more than Halloween - although it seems we all do love making a Halloween craft or two.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the peak of Fall colors, Columbus Day Weekend and International Day of the Girl.  Did you know about that one?  It's on October 11 according to my calendar and my daughter.  Here's the info:  "Just two years ago, the UN declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child to raise awareness about all issues concerning gender inequality around the world.  It’s a day when activist groups come together under the same goal to highlight, discuss, and take action to advance rights and opportunities for girls everywhere".  So, how do we incorporate this day/movement into what we do?  Send an empowering, spirit lifting, and confidence boosting card to a girl you know.  You never know what impact it may have.
Product of the Month - Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set
I recently found out that the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set has been in the top 10 selling stamp sets for the last two years.  When I first looked at the set I have to admit I wasn't all that impressed.  It was a prize patrol item at one of the Stampin' Up! events I attended.  But after using it a bit, it's definitely a go-to set, especially for background stamping.  I encourage you to take a look on Pinterest and see the hundreds of examples of cards and then decide for yourself.  #130514 Wood $25 and #130517 Clear $18.
Every Pumpkin is Making a Difference
I am a huge advocate for the quality, quantity of projects, exclusive stamps and joy from each month of Paper Pumpkin.  But this month, your Pumpkin has even more meaning - Stampin' Up! will make a donation on behalf of every Paper Pumpkin box that is delivered in October to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).  Each October kit will be delivered this month in a special Pink Box.

The donation amount depends on you: Stampin' Up! will donate $1 for every active subscriber and $2 for every NEW subscriber.   If you haven't joined yet - now is the time!

It will only take two minutes for you to subscribe: www.paperpumpkin.com

About BCRF: The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) advances the world's most promising research to eradicate breast cancer. Founded by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993, BCRF has raised more than $550 million to fuel discoveries in tumor biology, genetics, prevention, treatment, survivorship and metastasis, making it one of the largest non-governmental funders of breast cancer research in the world. This year BCRF has invested $58.6 million in research, to support over 235 researchers at leading medical institutions across six continents, including $11.6 million to the international Evelyn H. Lauder Founder's Fund focused on metastasis. By spending 91 cents of every dollar on research and public awareness programs, BCRF remains one of the nation's most fiscally responsible nonprofits. BCRF is the only breast cancer organization with an "A+" from CharityWatch, and has been awarded Charity Navigator's highest rating of four stars 13 times since 2002. Halloween Decor
The bad news is the Witching Hat Centerpiece from the Holiday Catalog is no longer available (due to it's extreme popularity).

The good news is the Spooky Wreath from last year is still available and at an extremely discounted price of only $10.79 (regular price $26.95).  I will be hanging my wreath up very shortly can't wait to enjoy the glittery spiderweb and beaded spider (the photo here does not do the wreath justice).  Everything you need is in the kit (except the glue) and it's super easy to put together.  If you don't have a "treat or treat" stamp, all you need to do is handwrite your message in a black marker.  Don't wait too long, at this price these will soon sell out too.  #135866.
There are only 79 days until Christmas!
You read correctly - just 79 days to shop, plan, decorate, wrap, bake, cook, make, address and mail your cards, and of course ENJOY the season!  Whoo!  That's a lot to look forward to.  I will do my best to help you with some of your planning and creating with my 12 Weeks of Christmas Series which will be begin at the end of the week.  Fa la la la la!!!!
Make Different Sized Treat Bags with the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits
Did you realize that you could make more than one size treat bag with this Thinlits?  All you need are the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits, Big Shot and your favorite Designer Series Paper. These mini treat bags are cute and so fun to give to away for any reason.  #137547, $40 (there are so many extra shapes to use with this set than just the treat bag).  Watch this short video on how it easily comes together:
Softball Fundraiser
This month I am hosting a fundraiser for our town's softball team.  Their fields are in desperate need of repair.  Softball has been a wonderful program for my now teenage daughter and I am so grateful to them for building her confidence, fitness and friendships (she's the tall one in glasses second from the left).  I am donating 20% of all orders during the month of October and have raised $80 for them so far.  I am hoping to raise a whole lot more with your help.  Orders can be placed with me in person or online at www.mailsomethingpretty.com (click Shop) and you can use the hostess code UXJZQ9DP (if you forget to use that code, that's okay, I can attach it later).  Thank you!!!!

Do you notice the "blood spatter" on the front tag?  That's from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set. We'll be making these at the Halloween Cards & Treats class. Inside is a peppermint pattie.
