Cocoa in a box

Published: Tue, 10/03/17

I'm so excited to begin my 12 Weeks of Christmas Ideas (although that means Christmas is only 12 weeks away - yikes!).  I hope these ideas over the next several weeks will be helpful to you, and also gives you the motivation to begin your DYI gifts early!!!

Hot Chocolate in a "Pizza Box"

I know hot chocolate is a big hit in my house and guess it may be in yours too.  It has become a great after school snack and after dinner treat, especially when it gets a little cold outside.  It's also a great little gift to give to a neighbor, teacher, colleague, child or really anyone who you want to give a smile this coming December.  This project is easy for everyone to make and is a great one for young helpers.  If you don't have all the supplies I used, you can either order them through me, or improvise with what you have on hand.  Feel free to change up your colors (or even adapt to a Halloween or Thanksgiving cocoa treat).  All the products I used are highlighted and linked to my Stampin' Up! store, in case you want to order your supplies.

This "pizza box" measures 3 1/2" square by 1" deep.  They are food safe and sell in packs of 8 for $6.  They come in white, but you can spritz them any color you wish.  I put 5 drops of Bermuda Bay re-inker in the spritzer and filled the rest up with rubbing alcohol.  You can use water too, but it takes a little longer to dry.

Inside the box, I put one package of hot chocolate mix, a bag of mini marshmallows (I used the 3 x 6 gusseted cellophane bags), two Hersey kisses and one round peppermint.  It fits perfectly snug.

To make the tag, I used two stamp sets: Coffee Cafe* and Hug in a Mug, coordinating Coffee Cups Thinlits & Big Shot.  I love how your can make all sorts of coffee, latte, tea & cocoa combinations.  Usually, you will use your Thinlit die to cut out a flat piece of paper, but I wanted a tag that opens.  I folded a piece of white card stock and placed the top edge of the die above the folded edge so it wouldn't cut the top.  You can do this technique with all sorts of shapes (mason jar, circle, cake, leaf and so on).
*The Coffee Cafe stamp set is 15% off until October 10.

I stamped a piece of Bermuda Bay card stock with fun pieces in the Hug in a Mug stamp set (there are so many fun pieces in this set).  I used the new 5/8" Night of Navy Crinkled Seam Binding and Linen Thread to attach the tag to the box.

As you can see, this project is one that anyone and everyone can make.  Fill the box with cocoa goodies, create a tag and wrap it all up with ribbon.  Get an assembly line going and create a whole bunch of goody boxes to give away.  I promise you will receive a great big smile in return.

Thank you for taking a peek at my first 12 Weeks of Christmas ideas.  You can look forward to the second project next week.  If you have any questions about the project or products, please contact me by clinking on one of the links below.
